Meet Casey, an undergraduate student in TRU’s Bachelor of Arts Honours program, majoring in psychology and minoring in sociology. Casey’s research journey began during the COVID-19 pandemic, knowing he needed research experience but not sure how to engage in the process. He began emailing a couple psychology professors and started working in the Emotions Lab for Dr. Catherine Ortner. In his first research study, he worked on a correlational study investigating how personality traits predicted emotion regulation usage. Casey also worked on this study as a Research Apprentice as well as a Research Assistant. While working in the emotions lab, he learned how to analyze data, conduct a study, and overall what engaging in the research process was like. Moreover, while working alongside Dr. Catherine Ortner, Casey was able to present virtually at the Society of Affective Science (SAS) Conference. He continued working in the Emotions Lab as an Honours student co-creating a correlational study on emotion regulation in the unique population of commercial content moderators and overall, his experience as an Honours student was both very fulfilling and exciting. One of his favourite experiences thus far has been presenting his research with a fellow Honours student at the SAS Conference 2023 in Long Beach, California. Overall, all of his roles have been extremely rewarding and have set him up to succeed in future endeavours. In this website page you will be able to explore Casey’s research journey.
